The world’s largest online healthcare marketplace, Docplanner is investing significant capital and resources into new acquisition Jameda.

As part of the deal, Docplanner will add more than 200 new team members to Jameda, investing more than a quarter of a billion euros in the German market over the next three years.

Munich-based Jameda, Germany’s biggest online healthcare marketplace from Hubert Burda Media, partners with over 20,000 doctors.

Its platform regularly attracts eight million patients, which will be added to Docplanner’s global client base of 110,000 doctors and 70 million monthly patients.

Docplanner, the digital health unicorn, will focus on growing the company’s sales, customer care and marketing teams.

The acquisition is Docplanner’s first major move into a new territory for four years. In 2017, the company set up in Mexico and Brazil.

The company has attained the widest geographic reach in the digital healthcare space worldwide.

Docplanner’s markets generate more than 50% of all healthcare expenditures in Europe and 84% in Latin America. Previous acquisitions include markets in Italy, Spain and Turkey.

WHY IT MATTERS

The mission of making the digital healthcare experience more human, with ease-of-use continues.

Valuable time savings can result in an efficient use of digital healthcare apps and software to reduce the backlog between healthcare professionals and patients.

Facilitating scheduling, booking, communication and payments can optimise patient flow, and reduce no-shows.

On the Jameda calendar, doctors can optimise their appointment management, saving time and money – and spend more time with patients instead of on admin work.

THE LARGER TREND

Docplanner creates digital apps and software solutions for doctors, clinics, hospitals and patients. The organisation has a network of almost two million healthcare professionals, with 100,000 customers worldwide and has offices in more than 12 countries.

More than seven million appointments are booked on Docplanner per month and the websites are visited by 70 million patients.

Docplanner’s latest funding round in August valued the company at more than $1 billion (€0.89M).

ON THE RECORD

“Germany is home to the biggest economy in Europe, yet doctors are still too often overwhelmed by patient demand. In fact, 40-50% of calls from patients currently go unanswered and lots of time gets wasted on admin. Our goal is to help them optimise their daily routine,” Docplanner founder and CEO, Mariusz Gralewski told MobiHealthNews.

"We are there to help doctors around the world, and Germany is no exception. We will improve the way they communicate with their patients, starting with online bookings, chat functionality, automated reminders and more. We'll also be working to improve the delivery of electronic health records and the check-in process.”

Dr Florian Weiss, CEO at Jameda said: “We make healthcare more human by liberating doctors from administrative tasks, thereby helping them spend more time with their patients. Equally, we are also making the entire patient journey more hassle-free and enjoyable by developing digital tools that facilitate the interaction between doctors and patients.

“Both companies started with the vision of connecting patients with the best doctors and then developed to enable patients to easily and digitally schedule appointments. For this to be achieved, both companies had to create digital practice management software and telemedicine tools.

“Making healthcare more human has always been at the heart of what we do, and our partnership with Docplanner will enable us to turn that vision into reality much more rapidly and in a more powerful way.”
