Fitbit adds videogame exec to its board, and other digital health hires

Fitbit’s latest board member is Matthew Bromberg, COO of mobile and social media videogame company Zynga and former executive at games publisher Electronic Arts. Fitbit will be leveraging Bromberg’s entertainment background as it looks to increase consumer engagement across its devices, according to the company.

“At Fitbit, we are focused on encouraging lasting behavior change that can lead to positive health outcomes, and have seen firsthand how making health and fitness fun through gamification leads to great results,” James Park, cofounder and CEO of Fitbit, said in a statement. “Matt’s track record of building beloved brands across platforms and developing new revenue models for the gaming industry will be a tremendous asset for our team as we continue our focus on delivering smart, engaging software experiences and look to expand our paid service offerings to millions of users around the globe.”

Mount Sinai Health System has announced the appointment of of Joel Dudley, director of the Institute for Next Generation Healthcare at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, as its executive vice president for precision health. In heading this initiative, Dudley will lead investigations into care models that incorporate personalized data from digital, genomic, and other sources within a patient’s diagnosis and treatment.

“Mount Sinai is harnessing data from our large and diverse patient population to treat and heal patients, as well as develop a next-generation learning health system,” Dudley said in a statement. “Our goal with the Precision Health Enterprise is to continue to personalize therapies for our patients, including those with conditions such as cancer, chronic diseases such as diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease, or rare genetic conditions. We believe that new product development, prototyping, artificial intelligence, predictive analysis, prevention, and partnerships will help us deliver better care in a rapidly changing health care ecosystem.”

ORHub, a provider of surgical software focused specifically on data analytics for cost effectiveness, has named Ray Oliver as its SVP of operations responsible for the expansion of customer success, implementation, sales, and support organizations. Oliver comes from an IT director position at Citi, where he was accountable for software performance and quality across multiple lines of business.

“Ray is joining ORHub at a critical time when we are expanding and requiring his leadership and operational excellence, especially in 2018 as we prepare to enter more hospitals, drive physician engagement and deliver the value of our underlying real-time data captured at the point of care,” ORHub CEO Colt Melby said in a statement.  “Ray not only has the broad technology experience from large organizations we need, he is also an experienced leader who knows what it means to be mission driven. I look forward to working closely with Ray as we further drive growth and change the face of surgical healthcare.”

Milestone Scientific, makers of computer-assisted drug injection instruments, has brought Sharon L. Smith onboard as the executive VP of global sales and marketing. Smith is a veteran of the healthcare equipment industry, having taken part of eight medical product launches over the course of her career.

She brings an extensive medical device background, a successful track record commercializing new products, as well as deep industry relationships—especially within the anesthesia and imaging markets,” Leonard Osser, interim CEO of Milestone Scientific, said in a statement. “Thus far, we have been successful in gaining marketing clearance and are creating awareness among [key opinion leaders] both in Europe and the US for our CompuFlo Epidural Computer Controlled Anesthesia System. With this foundation, we are now commencing the next phase of our strategy, which involves building out our distribution channels."
