In case anyone missed it, Apple announced that it will reveal iPhone OS 3.0 next week. Be sure to tune in Tuesday and I'll break down how the newest version of the iPhone operating system could affect potential and existing mHealth applications. While many are hoping for simple functionalities like "copy&paste" to be finally supported, there is some talk of the iPhone finally enabling multiple applications to run at once--a function Palm's Pre seems to already have.
For example, right now applications cannot run "in the background" while an iPhone user is making a call or browsing the Web. That sort of defeats the purpose of a typical medication reminder app, which needs to be running, front and center on the screen to be able to remind the user to take their meds.
We'll see what Tuesday brings.
To be clear: it's a major software update, not a new device form factor.
