Otsuka works with Science 37 and more digital health deals

Otsuka Pharmaceuticals has deepened its relationship with Science 37, a startup it invested in earlier this year. Otsuka will use Science 37’s mobile clinical trial technology to further digitize its own trials, with an initial focus on psychiatry and behavioral health.

“Otsuka is dedicated to promoting innovation in clinical trials as a means of expanding the diversity of patients enrolled in studies, as well as bringing new products to market faster,” William H. Carson, MD, president and CEO of Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development & Commercialization, said in a statement. “This collaboration with Science 37 is also the latest example of our commitment to leading in digital medicine and identifying new ways that technology can help transform the lives of patients.”

Ochsner Health System’s innovation lab, innovationOchsner, announced a joint program with health tech efficacy company Evidation Health to offer the consumer rewards program Evidation’s Achievement to Ochsner patients. Patients can earn rewards for steps, sleep, metrics related to their particular conditions, and participating in research studies.

“Through our partnership with Evidation, we saw an opportunity to empower Ochsner patients and improve our ability to do evidence-based care,” Dr. Richard Milani, Ochsner Health System’s chief clinical transformation officer, said in a statement. “With Evidation’s scalable technology platform and expertise in measuring how everyday behaviors correlate with health outcomes, we will now have the opportunity to incorporate learnings into individualized patient care in real time.”

Media technology company MAZ teamed up with medical communications company Harborside to launch a streaming and recorded video app for oncologists called OncologyGo. The app is available on Apple TV, Roku, and FireTV as well as iOS. The content will include educational information, updates from meetings, and discussions with thought leaders.

“Clinical advances in oncology are happening at a rapid pace, and staying current with the news is a challenge for the most seasoned experts in the field," Conor Lynch, Executive Editor at Harborside, said in a statement. "We're delighted to be working with MAZ on OncologyGo, which will deliver relevant and meaningful video content to healthcare providers whenever and wherever they want it.”

Chicago health system AMITA Health has deployed DocASAP’s online appointment scheduling platform. The platform lets patients search for a particular provider by location, insurance, or specialty and can book and reschedule appointments online and on mobile devices.

“It’s very important for us to find ways to close access gaps that exist in healthcare services,” Deborah Fullerton, chief medical officer and VP of AMITA Health, said in a statement. “To do this, we had to think differently. We found DocASAP’s unique capabilities of intelligent patient-provider matching coupled with online appointment scheduling will enable us to offer a differentiated patient experience.”

Payer-facing member portal company Healthx and mobile health engagement company mPulse Mobile are working together to offer personalized text messages, emails, and interactive voice messages to Healthx users.

Potentia Lab, a behavior changing technology platform, today announced that it has won a contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs' Center for Innovation to develop its e-learning platform for veterans living with PTSD. The company's approach to treating PTSD uses positive psychology. More.

Boston-based health transportation company Circulation has announced a partnership with Lyft that would allow its customers to use the ride-sharing service. Circulation's decision to collaborate was partially based customer feedback, CEO Robin Heffernan said, who noted that the company tries to keep in mind what users want when developing the product. Heffernan also highlighted Lyft's rapid expansion and strong reputation. More.

A slew of digital diabetes care companies have announced integrations with the upcoming virtual Type 2 diabetes management platform being developed by Onduo, a joint venture of Verily and Sanofi. These announced services include Voluntis’ Insulia, a digital insulin dose recommendation and coaching system; Glytec’s Glucommander Outpatient, cloud-based software that evaluates blood glucose and patient attribute to adjust insulin dosages; and BioTelemetry’s Telcare cellular-enabled glucometer and cloud-based data system.
